Julie has long been intrigued by the concept of microfinance, which she was first introduced to during her high school Model United Nations days. As a business school student with an interest in corporate sustainability, she co-founded and presided over one of the first undergraduate Net Impact chapters. After graduation, she worked for a boutique economic and financial consulting firm in Chicago. Two years later, Julie's wanderlust took the best of her and she independently backpacked and volunteered around Asia for five months. Her travels led her to shadow a government microfinance official in India, which repiqued her interest in the international development field. Since returning from Asia, Julie has lived in NYC working to bring to life an online retail startup with a mission of spreading awareness about sustainable solutions to humanitarian problems. She is excited to combine her love for exploring new places with her interest in international economic development during her time with BRAC Uganda.
