Meet Shawn, making life in Oakland sweeter — one dessert at a time

Support Shawn and other small business owners in Oakland, as Oakland becomes an official Kiva city on March 16, 2016. By lending as little as $25 to local small businesses you take an active role in choosing the shape of Oakland's future, strengthening our community and creating jobs.

After working as a successful account manager in the office furniture industry, Shawn decided he needed to do something that truly “fed his soul.” From a very early age, he had been interested in food, especially desserts. Desserts had always taken center stage at his family’s parties when he was growing up. Shawn’s mother had supported this interest by encouraging him to get his hands into ingredients and transform them into sweet creations.
