$10,000 Kiva Video Contest

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Tongal.com to sponsor a $10,000 video contest. The goal of the contest is to create an inspiring video that explains how the Kiva loan process works. Videos should not only serve as a tutorial but as a tool to raise awareness and attract new lenders to Kiva.org.

So, what is Tongal anyway?

Tongal is a new startup that “crowdsources” the creation of content (instructional video, ads, music videos, print campaigns, slogans etc.) by connecting businesses and organizations with creative people around the world (you!). Their platform has a place for everybody to participate in the creative process and encourages a grassroots approach to marketing; something we strongly believe in at Kiva.

Tongal’s collaborative community consists of members in dozens of countries and ranges from professional directors to aspiring film school students to couch potato creative’s all over the world. They believe great ideas and videos can come from anyone, anywhere, and so do we.

Here’s how the contest works:

Phase 1: Video (Deadline December 16, 2009)

Total Cash Awarded: $7,250

Submit a 30 second to 2 minute video that explains how the Kiva loan process works. The Top 5 videos will be selected by Kiva and awarded cash prizes. Our panel of judges consists of the following Kivans:

- Matt Flannery, Co-Founder & CEO

- Premal Shah, President

- Chelsa Bocci, Director of Marketing & Community Outreach

- Tamara Khan, Product Manager

- Gerard Niemira, Customer Service Manager

Phase 2: Most Viewed (Deadline January 31, 2010)

Total Cash Awarded: $2,750

The 5 videos that are seen the most times (by unique users, delivered by Tongal - on the site or via email, embed or shared) by January 31st will be awarded cash prizes.

Chelsa Bocci

Chelsa was part of the founding team at Kiva in 2005 and was responsible early on for establishing Kiva's global Microfinance Partnerships program where she managed a great deal of relationships with Kiva's Field Partners, primarily in Africa, and oversaw Kiva's Microfinance Operations programs; Inventory Management and Kiva's expansive Fellows Program. Chelsa is currently responsible for leading Kiva's Marketing and Community teams, which includes Online Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Content Management, Community Engagement and Support. Prior to Kiva, Chelsa was a Corporate Recruiter and Immigration Specialist with Barclays Global Investors. She returned to the U.S. following a period of extensive world travel and work abroad; including Social Work with HIV-positive children in South Africa and tsunami relief efforts in Thailand and Indonesia. Chelsa received her B.S. in Psychology from Santa Clara University, and has completed certifications in Social Performance Management, Framework for Reporting/Analysis/Monitoring/ Evaluation (FRAME), Behavioral Interviewing/Talent Selection, Risk Management Strategies, and Human Resources Management.
